I knew I wanted to do something with the woad-dyed samples from the vats produced from the Riseholme Park woad. See post Riseholme Woad Harvest & Steep and Woad Vat #2.
I wanted a way to showcase the shades we were able to achieve and tell the story of the woad plants at the same time.

Here you can see some layout variations I went through. My intention is to add some slow-stitching to the hold the pieces together and add decoration. I also sketched the image of a woad plant at different life stages on each of the three layouts: first year leaves, in flower, and seed heads, which I will also embroider. Here you can see the fabric marker pen sketches, which will disappear with a warm-hot iron after I no longer need them as a stitch guide.

After playing around with the balance of each piece, here are the finished layouts. I have some woad-dyed embroidery thread from the same vat session that I will use for the stitching.
I plan to display them as a triptych.
