A Multidisciplinary artist with special interests in textiles, printmaking, and performance, Lauren explores sustainable processes and materials in her work to research and interrogate wider questions around ecological and social justice.
Research, community education, and studio practice are combined to investigate themes that affect our society and the planet. Lauren particularly enjoys collaborating with others to broaden her perspective, leaning into the advantages of interdisciplinary work to extend the enquiry and contextualise findings for a wider audience.
Current areas of interest include ethics of care – questioning our Western dependancy on a growth economy that is unsustainable and benefits only the few, over one of balance and reciprocity that intends to serve the many whilst being mindful of the non-human occupants of this planet.
Looking into the history and evolution of Feminist discourse and how it has been expressed in art, Lauren seeks to understand where the discussion lies now, what lessons have been learned, and where do we go from here? In a society, seemingly committed to dividing and othering in order to win big in a trolley dash for wealth and resources, have we lost what it means to connect with each other, consider the needs of everyone, and appreciate when we have plenty?
Lauren began her creative career in theatre and later teaching secondary drama and performing arts, and constantly draws on her knowledge and experience to inform her work today.
