I recently saw an opportunity to apply for an exhibition call out from a new art gallery venue in Lincoln.
BASE is a not-for-profit, artist-led exhibition space and artist studios in the city of Lincoln. Launched in Summer 2026, the project was designed and initiated by Oliver Ventress and Madara Vimba, both University of Lincoln Fine Art graduates who recognised a gap in the city for available artist studios and a flexible, contemporary gallery space. We believe that every artist needs a ‘base’ – a grounding point where new ideas can form, where artists and makers can feel anchored but are free to explore as they expand their reach locally and beyond.
I entered three artworks to see if I could be a part of their launch alongside other local artists and was delighted to be among those picked for exhibition! I have been trying to challenge myself more this year to apply and put myself out there. It helped that my fellow collective member, Charlie, encouraged me to apply too. This is yet another strength of our collective, in the way that it offers support and a sounding board for ideas and proposals. I really appreciated being able to go through my application with someone and agonise together about being accepted or rejected. Luckily we both were selected for the show.
The event took place on 10th July, 2026 and here are my photos of that night, featuring my piece A Call To The Fen (second photo). If you want to see coverage of the launch night by BASE themselves, here is the link: https://www.baseinlincoln.co.uk/launch
